“Its liquor is like the sweetest dew from heaven,” wrote Lu Yu, a Chinese tea master and writer, in praise of tea, a treasured element of Chinese culture. However, this appreciation for beauty and craftsmanship is also reflected in the China Folk House Retreat.

Imagine stepping into a meticulously crafted piece of China ensconced in the heart of West Virginia. The China Folk House Retreat, located at the stunning Friends Wilderness Center, is a traditional farmhouse originally built in China’s Yunnan province. Disassembled and transported across the ocean, it was painstakingly reassembled in 2019.

Today, the China Folk House Retreat serves as a cultural and educational center dedicated to environmental stewardship, community engagement, and fostering cultural exchange.

In our upcoming Tea Chronicles episode, we’ll be taking you on a virtual journey to the China Folk House Retreat. Join us as we explore its fascinating story, delve into its mission and cultural significance, and of course, discover its connection to the world’s most beloved beverage.
