ABOUT QUITE THE STIR

We invite you to step back in time to Quite The Stir Guest Lodging and Tea Shop. Here you'll capture the nostalgia of 'coming home' to the 1940's and the WWII era. Revel in a time when the Great Depression and Dust Bowl had ended, and where all of America cast a hopeful expectant look toward the future! Quite The Stir, a cozy bungalow, is located on the historic west side of Gettysburg. As you may know, Gettysburg, steeped in historical treasures and events, is well known for its part in the turning point of the Civil War. Gettysburg was the home of former president Dwight David Eisenhower and Mamie Eisenhower and also location of both Gettysburg College and the Lutheran Theological Seminary. Less than four blocks from the center of the downtown historic district, and one block from the Gettysburg Battlefield, Quite The Stir offers charm, warmth, and nostalgic comfort at an excellent price.

What began as an edgy, kitchy dream for your Innkeepers has finally become a showstopper of a wow-reality in Quite The Stir. Once a part of the lands lying in the shadows of the grand 1800's Gettysburg Springs Hotel, Quite The Stir in small part, has now re-awakened the Hotel's original intent and is again hosting guests to the charm of Gettysburg and surrounding countryside. When planning your Bed and Breakfast stay and looking for the unique and an abandoned relaxation, remind yourself that, in life, in the here and now, today is all we have here on earth... so sing like no one is listening, dance like no one is watching, look for the unpredictable, rather than the predictable, the extraordinary rather than the ordinary and we think you'll most certainly find this and more at Quite The Stir.
Stepping back to the 1940's, we'll find that the US General Dwight D. Eisenhower becomes the Supreme Allied Commander. On the domestic front, the average cost of a new home was $3,920.00, while "Average Joe" wages were $1,725.00 per year. A gallon of gas was "oh-so fine" at 11 cents per gallon. The average cost of renting a home was $30 a month. Riding around the town with your sweetheart in a new "jalopy" would cost 850 precious Greenbacks. Gone were the rug beaters, to be replaced with a spanking new Hoover vacuum. This would find Americans parting with $52.50, for the cost of keeping mothers' large flowered area rugs clean. On the fashion front, in 1940, nylon stockings went on sale and in 1946 bikinis hit the market. To pass the time, the decade of the forties would find the local theatre houses playing Casa Blanca and Yankee Doodle Dandy to packed houses. Big Bands and Glenn Miller songs continued to soar in popularity hitting the airwaves and White Christmas made its debut
